Reply with quote | #1 | Rarely do I take time to look at what has been posted on this local sounding board. It has been a long time. But, tonight I looked back at all the posting regarding our boy, Decker. We have had such wonderful support from this community and let me tell you that it keeps coming. You are all blessings to our little boy and the rest of our family. Thank you Jannsens, Charmel Gillin, Lorraine Lynch, Early Childhood Services, Decker's ABA teachers our wonderful family and friends and the list goes on and on and on and on...
A little update on D. He is in the thick of his home-based intense therapy. We renovated our little shop into a classroom, where D spends 30-40 hours per week. He really is the hardest working little man in the valley. He loves it, however, and has transformed into a content and happy child again. We are discovering Decker!! He is now sleeping through the night with no medication. He is not crying and whining constantly. His self abusive behavior is almost non existant. He has normal eye contact again, which is a beautiful thing with those big brown eyes. He is regaining and retainging some language. Decker is mastering so many play skills and programs that I can't name them all. Puzzles and shape sorters and is interested in books and color and shape matching to name a few. He is shaping into a typical little boy. It is such a blessing!! The program is taxing however and Decker still has a long way to go. It is a huge dedication for our entire family and community to provide this service to our little boy. But, it is sooooo worth it.
Thank you for your help, keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Contact us anytime with questions or if you'd like to see D, his classroom or if you're interested in ABA therapy. You got us to where we are and we will continue to need you to get us where we need to be.
And just a note to Decker...My boy, I love you, I'm proud of you. Daddy and I are doing our best by you but I know that no one is working harder than you are. You are like David because you are up against giants. I know with the Lord's help you will continue to win your battles. Baby, you're my hero. Love, Mama |

Reply with quote | #3 | It is just by chance that I happened to open this site tonight as I was completing my law studies for the night...what a great way to end a ridiculously intense day of reading fact intensive cases! To hear of the successes of a small child in overcoming the type of adversity through God's grace and the love of two wonderful parents...Decker is a true testament to the rest of us that NOTHING is impossible if we persevere rather than give into life's circumstances.
I have known D's mama for many years, and have walked through some of life's trials with her (both my own and hers); none can compare to a parents' discovery that their child may be facing life altering complications. Charlie, even with your own health struggles, you and Will have met D's challenge head on with the strength of God in your corner, and the faith to believe for as much as you love your son, God loves him more. It is through your example of loving faith that you both have blessed all of us. Your story has just begun and I believe the path you're on right now will lead to the healing of many families facing similar issues down the road...
I love you and you are always in my prayers Stace

Reply with quote | #4 | I was just checking the message board this morning and read your update. It is so good to hear that Decker is happy and growing! I would like to relate a quick story for you and I hope it is something that can give you strength to keep doing all the hard work you do as a family. I have known this little man since he was 3 months old, he is now almost 9 years, he is my best friend's little boy. I spoke with him on the phone last night and that is the first time since I last saw them 1 1/2years ago. (they live in Seattle) It brought tears to my eyes to hear him comprehend the conversation, participate in complete sentences and get excited to tell me about what he was doing. He could not communicate for most of his life, keep eye contact, he too would hurt himself and be very frustrated. He is so happy now, goes to school and has friends. His mother has worked so hard to help her son and feels so blessed to have this amazing child in her life. My prayers are with Decker and your wonderful family. Lora Floyd & kids

Recently you posted you were in need of toys to rotate for Decker.I m trying to eliminate some to make room for the new ones from Christmas.I am unsure what might help you.I have some Duplo large blocks some plastic play food (apples, bananas, grapes etc)I also have a plastic ark and some plastic animals. These are all in great shape.they belong to my preschool and Kinder.age grand kids, however they have lost interest in them.If they will help Decker you may have them,if you just pick them up.Let me know,Donna |

Reply with quote | #13 | Please pray for us Wednesday morning, February 4th, as we go before the Senate Business Committee to testify in favor of SB234. It is a bill that proposes a state mandate that would require insurance companies to fund autism treatment. It would solidify this diagnosis as a neuro-biological disorder! It is not a mental health issue, it is a health issue. If our Decker was diagnosed with cancer they would have sent us out the door with a plan and a team of doctors and resources. We would have had guidance along the path, they would have shown us how to do it and how to pay for it. Instead, Decker was diagnosed with Autism and we were sent out the door by a doctor who had tears in his eyes and said "good luck". This bill would give families a path and give the professionals a way to guide us down it. Contact us with any questions re: this bill and we can try to assist! Thank you Mission Valley for continueing to be in Decker Cote's corner!
